The next Marsden String Day will be on Sunday November 22nd 2026.
Venue: Marsden Mechanics Hall, Peel Street, Marsden HD7 6BW
Timings: The event will run from 11am to around 5pm with breaks for coffee/tea and lunch.
Food and drink: Tea/coffee/biscuits will be supplied, with coffee from around 10.45am. For lunch, either bring something of your own, or visit one of the many cafes in Marsden.
How to sign up: Please contact Nick re availability, as places are limited. If you are a violin player, please say whether you would like/expect to play 1st or 2nd violin.
The day costs £20 (£10 for under-19s). Please pay on arrival, either cash or card.
Direction: Louise Latham will conduct, and there will be a workshop atmosphere leading to a low-key play-through at the end. If you don’t know Louise, you should know that she is a great leader and facilitator for string players. With many years of professional playing and teaching experience, she has the knack of getting the very best out of any group of string players!
Please bring a music stand.
Works to be studied:
This will be an “English String Day” led by Louise Latham. Music will be supplied on the day. The pieces to be played will be:
- Ireland: Concertino Pastorale
- Britten: Simple Symphony
- Spilsbury: Poem (from Bodnant Quartet)
Britten and Spilsbury parts will follow. Paper music for all pieces will be available on the day.
