White Rose Morris

Jig Competition

The 10th Cliff Barstow Jig Competition, Spa Foyer, Whitby, Tuesday 19th August 2025, 4.30pm

The Cliff Barstow jig competition, now in its tenth year, was set up as a memorial to Cliff, a founder member of White Rose Morris, father and grandfather of active members Ned Barstow and Liam Parker.

Cliff’s dancing was old-school Cotswold Morris – economical, straightforward and graceful – and these are the qualities that we are encouraging and looking for in the Jig competition.

The 2025 winner was Emma Wooders, and the joint audience-choice winners were Reuben Earnshaw and Xavier Gillow.

The standard was very high – White Rose thank all the entrants for their contributions and Callum and Cathy for the interval songs.

High-quality photos by Ben Potton. Videos by Pete Davenhill-Stevens and Nick Barber.

Ollie Simons – Peterborough Morris and last year’s winner, opening the proceedings by dancing the Fartown Jig – thanks to Rick Titley-Sage for the steps. Music played by Nick Barber.
